Chennai, April 23 (IANS) In a bid to attract viewers across the world to watch the recently released Tamil-Telugu bilingual "Gouravam", its makers have made the film accessible online for a price of $5. However, this offer is to open to all countries except India and the US.
"I believe it's a wonderful initiative to promote a film beyond borders. We didn't want to include India and the US because the film is already running in these places and it would be unethical on our part to release it here," the movie's director Radha Mohan told IANS.
"If this model proves successful, then sooner or later producers are going to follow. We don't know how this will turn out to be, but we are hoping for a positive result," he added.
"Gouravam", both in Tamil or Telugu, can be watched online at www.prakashrajlive.com. Upon payment of $5, viewers will have 24 hours to watch the film.
"Most Tamil or Telugu films are released in prominent foreign locations such as the US and Canada. But, there are so many Tamilians and Andhrites in other countries as well who wish to watch our films," he said.
"To release films in these countries will be expensive and, therefore, such an initiative will benefit the producer," added Radha Mohan.
Featuring Sirish and Yami Gautham, "Gouravam", a film about racial discrimination and honour killing, released April 19. It is produced by Prakash Raj.
