Aditya Verma, the petitioner in the Indian Premier League (IPL) corruption case, Sunday said he will be moving the Supreme Court against the decision of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to postpone its Annual General Meeting (AGM) that was scheduled for the end of this month.
During an informal meet in Chennai, the BCCI postponed its AGM scheduled for later this month and said the future course of action will be decided at the working committee meeting slated for Sep 26.
"I will be forced to move Supreme Court in case the BCCI decides to defer or postpone the AGM during the informal meeting of senior officials at Hotel Park Sheraton in Chennai today. At the outset, I would like to bring to your notice the complete chaos that is prevailing in Indian Cricket because of the absence of an able leader. Being run by proxy officials, who neither have the necessary acumen nor the administrative quality to follow the right path at the time of need, BCCI has become an object of ridicule in the international arena," said Verma, who is secretary of the unrecognised Cricket Association of Bihar (CAB), in a statement.
Verma said the decision was taken in connivance with ousted president N. Srinivasan, who has been removed by the Supreme Court pending investigations in the corruption case in the 2013 edition of the IPL.
"I have information from reliable sources that some officials of BCCI in connivance with N. Srinivasan have conspired to defer the scheduled AGM of BCCI. This is a shameless and cunning attempt to gain time for Srinivasan, whose role in IPL 6 scam is currently under investigation by the Honourable Supreme Court," he said.
The Supreme Court Sep 1 ignored pleas to reinstate Srinivasan as its president. It also gave two more months to the Mukul Mudgal Committee to submit the final report in the spot-fixing and betting scandal in the 2013 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The scam involved 13 people, including some prominent cricketers.
"The Honourable Supreme Court had clearly directed that Shiv Lal Yadav would be the Interim President vested with all the administrative powers of BCCI. He is free to hold the AGM and sign the necessary papers on accounts. There is no legal hurdle involved. Mr. Yadav can discharge all his power till further order (or election results)," said Verma.
