Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Wednesday said Gurgaon will be made India's "smartest city" and the state government will spare no efforts in this direction.

"Gurgaon lags behind in the race for smart city. Two other cities in Haryana -- Karnal and Faridabad -- have been ranked above, but this is not final," Khattar said while addressing the Nasscom Product Conclave here.

He said the state government has asked the Centre that if the amount of Rs.100 crore -- that is to be given by the union government annually for developing a smart city -- is provided by Haryana, then can Gurgaon be included in the list of smart cities.

"The central government is considering this proposal," he said.

"Haryana might have three smart cities instead of two. Even if it is not accepted, then also the state government is committed to develop Gurgaon as the 'smartest city' because it is already a smart city," Khattar assured.
