Woman hammers husband to death in Delhi, held

A woman was arrested on the charge of battering her sleeping husband to death with a hammer, the Delhi Police said on Tuesday.

Hansa Devi, who is said to be mentally disturbed, battered her husband Kamal, 35, on late Monday night when he was sleeping at their home in Narela's Sector 5, the police said.

"Hansa, 26, was arrested on Tuesday morning after her four-year-old daughter told their neighbours about the crime and they in turn informed the police," a senior police officer said.

"Hansa told police that she had an altercation with Kamal on Monday night over not purchasing some medicines for her. Kamal beat her after a quarrel over the issue," the officer said.

"When he was asleep, she attacked Kamal and battered him to death. She slept beside the body the whole night. Her elder daughter witnessed the crime and recorded her statement with the police," the officer added.

Kamal worked as a labour in a shoe factory in Narela.
