A 40-year-old woman was arrested on Thursday on the charge of running over and seriously injuring a woman dietician crossing a road in south Delhi, police said.
Preeti Singh was arrested from her Saket residence for hitting Varnita Garg, 26, while racing her Mahindra Scorpio with another sport utility vehicle as Garg was crossing the road to reach her office at Pushpawati Singhania Research Institute at Saket on Monday morning.
Varnita Garg is still on ventilator at a private hospital in Saket, the police said.
Police said they zeroed in on the accused driver as onlookers had managed to note down the first three digits of her SUV's registration number.
"Varnita Garg was hit by two SUVs speeding from Sheikh Sarai to Mehrauli side. One of the SUVs was driven by Preeti Singh. She was driving the Scorpio that ran over the junior dietician. Varnita was flung 20 metres into the air after she was hit," Deputy Commissioner of Police Ishwar Singh told IANS.
