An elderly woman was robbed and murdered by unidentified assailants at her home here Monday, police said.
Sulochna Bansal, 65, was present along with her five-year-old grandson at her home in Punjabi Bagh locality in west Delhi around 11 a.m. Monday when a group of assailants barged into the house and held her hostage in a room.
When she resisted the intruders, they stabbed her many times and fled with valuables and cash, police said.
The woman's daughter found the front door of the house bolted from inside. After failing to get any response, she called a neighbour and found the back door open.
Bansal, wife of a businessman, was found lying in a pool of blood while her grandson was locked in another room.
Police were called and the woman was rushed to a hospital where doctors declared her dead.
Police suspect the involvement of a former domestic help, but have not ruled out other angles also.
