Women students of Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology (MANIT) here on Thursday created a ruckus and boycotted classes over official orders to allow them entry into hostels only till 9.30 p.m. and barring them from wearing short skirts.

The protesting students rallied on the campus from Thursday morning and shouted slogans against the authorities.

They said they have to some times stay out late due to coaching classes as well as job searches. They rued that they were forced to put up in hostel lobbies if they returned late to hostels. Even rain plays a spoilsport some times.

Earlier, the deadline for return to hostels was 10.30 p.m.

The protestors also questioned the order to not allow them to wear short skirts on the campus as well as hostels.

MANIT officials were not available for comment on the issue.
