Won't renew ordinance on land acquisition: Modi
In his Mann Ki Baat address, he said 13 central acts will be included to extend benefits to those farmers whose land is acquired
Agencies New Delhi Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said his government will not renew the land acquisition ordinance that lapses on Monday.
"I have decided. The ordinance lapses tomorrow, and we will not renew it," Modi said in his radio address Mann ki Baat.
He said a statutory order was being brought to include 13 central acts to extend benefits to those farmers whose land is acquired.
"The government has a clear heart. For the benefit of farmers, the government will do anything.
The 13 central acts includes those related to national highways and railways.
In his eleventh Mann ki Baat programme on Sunday, Prime Minister Modi wished the people a happy Onam.
He also wished the women of the nation a very happy Raksha Bandhan.
Modi spoke about the financial plans and schemes launched by his government. He congratulated the people for opening bank accounts under the Jan Dhan Yojana, which till now has gathered more than Rs. 22 crores this year.
"I got to know about Sufi traditions in the last few days. I felt very good. Whatever religion one follows, one should get to know about Sufism," Modi said.
He also talked about his invitation to visit Buddhist sites.
