Defending champion Liu Shiwen of China beat South Korea's Seok Ha-jung in the first match of the women's table tennis World Cup here Saturday.
World No. 1 Liu triumphed 11-1, 11-6, 11-4, 13-11.
"Because it is a group game, adapting to a circumstance is priority," Liu was quoted as saying by Xinhua.
Singapore's Feng Tianwei came from behind to beat Ai Fukuhara 4-2.
Liu will take on Yu Mengyu from Singapore Sunday morning.
The World Cup, one of the table tennis "grand slam" events, has attracted 20 players from 15 countries and regions.
