CPI-M general secretary Sitaram Yechury on Friday called on Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal at the secretariat here and discussed deteriorating centre-state relations.

Delhi government officials described the meeting as a "courtesy call", but the Communist Party of India-Marxist leader said they spoke on the deteriorating coordination between the central and state governments as it was a "violation of constitutional structure".

"Cooperative federalism is essential between the central and state governments which is being violated for last few months. All chief ministers are concerned about it," Yechury said after the meeting.

"There needs to be discussion between states and central government as per 'federal and constitutional' procedure. It is (cooperative federalism) something which Jyoti Basu started 30 years back by bringing states together and we are continuing that here," he said.

Yechury, however, said he was yet to receive a formal invitation to attend the cooperative federalism seminar on September 22, called by the Aam Aadmi Party government for better relation between the central and state governments.

"We will be there, though a formal invitation is yet to be received," he said.
