Accusing the BJP government of launching a "four point attack" to weaken the revolutionary forces in the country, CPI-M General Secretary Sitaram Yechury insisted on strengthening the party mechanism to make way for a revolutionary movement.

"There has been a four-point attack by the present regime to impede the revolutionary movement in the country: the rise of colonial forces; economic policies to benefit the capitalists; destruction of the heritage and composite culture of the country and constant attack on the democratic system. That is the current political situation here," Yechury said here on the occasion of 100 years of the Russian Revolution.

"Therefore, if we want to take our revolutionary movement forward under the current situation, we have to strengthen our weapon that can successfully prevent the attempts of our rulers to diversify people.

"That weapon is our party. The leftist party mechanism is the only weapon that can bring people together and strengthen their unity," he said.

Yechury alleged that the Centre is importing "Gujarat model" in Parliament by not letting the winter session to start.

He claimed the party in power at the Centre is manipulating the parliamentary system, looking at the upcoming election in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh.

"They do not want parliament to function before the elections as several issues like Amit Shah's son Jay Shah's scam, Vyapam scam, demonetisation and GST would come up. They are undermining the parliamentary system in the country," he said.

Referring to the Russian Revolution, the Left leader said if the Left wing parties are unable to take advantage of the growing unrest in the country and transform it into a revolutionary movement, the "Right-wing forces" would make good use of it.

"No matter how much the objective situation around us is favourable for a revolution, Lenin always said that we would not be able to take advantage of it unless our weapon or the subjective factor is properly utilised," Yechury said.

"There is a Right-wing force in ascendency throughout the world including our country. Therefore the leftist force has to unite people and also move towards a common goal. There are enough objective factors in the society for a revolutionary movement. It remains to be seen whether the Leftist force or the fascist force takes advantage of it," he added.
