Yoga should be integrated with modern medicine for the treatment of mental and neurological problems, Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda said here on Saturday.

"The NIMHANS (National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences) is successfully blending Yoga with the modern systems of health care," the minister said at the 20th convocation of the institute.

He said the 'AYUSH' centre of the institute had thoughtfully and diligently developed an evidence base for integrating Yoga therapies for mental and neurological problems.

"I would like NIMHANS to suggest methods and mechanisms that would further facilitate this integration," Nadda said, adding that Yoga has much to offer in managing mental and neurological conditions.

Also present at the convocation ceremony was K. Radhakrishnan, former chairman of the Indian Space Reseacrh Organisation (ISRO).

'AYUSH' is an acronym for Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy.
