A yoga teacher from Uttar Pradesh was Tuesday sent to seven days' police custody for raping a 33-year-old German tourist in a beach village in Goa, police said.
Krishna Sharma, a 37-year-old from Ghaziabad, was arrested Monday at Goa airport while he was leaving for New Delhi after allegedly committing the rape at Mandrem, a popular beach village in north Goa, 30 km from the capital. The beach is popular with Russians.
Sharma was imparting yoga lessons in Goa during the tourist season. The woman had signed up for yoga classes with him since October, said police inspector Tushar Vernekar.
Police said the woman was allegedly raped by Sharma Monday night, when she was in an inebriated state after returning from a party.
Sharma escorted the woman back to her room and raped her, Vernekar said.
He has been booked under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code,
