American fielding guru Mike Young will be Australia's fielding coach during the impending One-Day International (ODI) tri-series, involving India and England, and the 2015 World Cup, a Cricket Australia (CA) statement said Saturday.
He comes in place of Greg Blewett who is unavailable because of the birth of his child. But Blewett will return to his role after the birth and work with Young.
Young has worked intermittently with the Australian cricket team for 15 years.
A CA spokesperson said the decision to bring Young into the squad was made months ago due to the impending birth of Blewett's child and is not linked to Australia's fielding performance during the just concluded Test series.
Australia have missed 17 catching chances during the 2-0 series win against India, which concluded Saturday, forcing coach Darren Lehmann to describe his team's fielding as "shoddy at best".
The ODI series begins Jan 18 with the hosts taking on India in the first match.
