A youth faked his kidnapping to demand Rs 3 crore ransom from his family to buy an expensive car, police said on Tuesday.
The accused identified as Sandeep Kumar alias Sanjay, a resident of Gurugram's Krishna Colony, went missing on March 29.
Gurugram Police PRO Subhash Bokan said, Sandeep had gone for cricket practice. He left his two-wheeler near the Mata Chintapurni temple in Sector 5, and took a bus to Dharuheda in Rewari and then to Bhiwadi.
In Bhiwadi, he paid Rs 500 to a ragpicker to make a ransom call to his brother Navin Kumar. He stayed in Bhiwadi for couple of days before returning to Gurugram, he said.
As a complaint of kidnapping had been registered with Gurugram Police, a traffic official spotted him in Manesar and handed him over to the police.
"Sandeep gave investigators a fake story. But when questioned said he did not remember anything about abduction as he had lost his consciousness in captivity.

"The police was not convinced and decided to recreate the kidnapping. Taken to Mata Chintapurni temple, Sandeep broke down and revealed his actual plan," Bokan said.
Sandeep was booked under IPC sections 385 and 201 at the New Colony police station. He was produced at the Gurugram court, which granted him bail after a strong warning.
