Yu Pei Lee in semis of junior tennis

Chinese Taipei's Yu Pei Lee stormed into the semi-finals of the girls singles Under-18 at the International Tennis Federation (ITF) juniors here Thursday.

Lee overcame the challenge of fourth seed Janse Van Rensburg from South Africa 6-3 6-3, in 85 minutes at the Dakshin Kalikata Sports complex here.

Top seeded Karman Kaur Thandi, however, struggled against qualifier Mahak Jain but prevailed 6-2, 5-7, 6-4 in two hours 20 mins.

In the boys singles Under-18 category, top seeded Aryan Goveas from India was stretched to the limit by unseeded 15-year-old Siddhant Banthia but the former managed to win the quarter-final match 5-7, 6-4, 6-0.

Goveas will face local boy Ishaque Eqbal in the semi-finals, as Eqbal got the better of qualifier Yugal Bansal 6-3, 3-0 (retired) in the quarters.

Third seeded Cing Yang Meng of Chinese Taipei also entered the semi-final, defeating India's Dhruv Sunish 6-2, 6-4.

Meng will now face eighth seeded Kaya Gore of Turkey who breezed past second seeded Alex Solanki of India 6-4, 6-1 in 86 mins.
