In case you were wondering if the 12 AW-101 helicopters being procured from AgustaWestland were good enough for ferrying VVIPs, the defence ministry has assured us they are. A press release from the ministry says so in its headline: Acquiring of swanky AW-101 helicopters. Why a press release would be put out in May for a contract that was signed in February is explained by the fact that the release is to publicise a question in the Rajya Sabha. Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut asked Defence Minister A K Antony if the finance ministry or the Special Protection Group or the Indian Air Force had raised any security concerns about the purchase. Antony replied saying no security concerns had been raised.
