West Bengal Chief Minister had tweeted that ATM stood for “ayega to milega”, referring to automated teller machines running dry across the country in the wake of demonetisation of certain high-value currencies by the government. Now, a milk dispenser installed by a little-known dairy firm, Vaishno Dairy, in Adityapur, Seraikela-Kharsawan, Jharkhand, is working to change the way consumers perceive those three letters. The all-day or ‘anytime milk’ vending machines, the first of which was installed last week, have made the buying process hassle-free, with rechargeable smart cards doing away with the need for a consumer to dole out 'rare' cash. If there is one similarity with the way ATMs are spewing — if at all— cash these days, the milk ATMs also have an upper limit. A person can take only up to 2 litres of milk per day.
