Addressing the Sadbhawna rally at Khadoor Sahib in Punjab on Monday, Sukhbir Singh Badal, deputy chief minister of Punjab, said the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) was like a mother. He said it was a party of the "Sikh qaum (Urdu for a community of people)" as it was the only outfit that took up the Sikh cause on a global basis.
"It is not my party nor Parkash Singh Badal's (his father and Punjab chief minister). It is like your mother. So keep blessing it." The alliance between the SAD and the Bharatiya Janata Party has been ruling Punjab for two consecutive terms and is eyeing a third term in 2017.
