Commerce Secretary Rajeev Kher briefed the media on the European Union (EU) banning Indian Alphonso mangoes and the United States Trade Representative's Special 301 Report last week. He sounded duly concerned at the EU's unilateral action banning mangoes and some vegetables, and gave a detailed description of what the government was doing to lift the ban. That was in his capacity as a representative of the Government of India. He could not resist adding that as an individual, he was happy that he would get to enjoy Alphonso mangoes, which are not usually seen in Indian markets. He even asked the media to enjoy Alphonso mangoes this summer and not get distracted with queries.
