Despite talk in Congress circles that the Aam Aadmi Party may undercut its votes, Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh remains optimistic. He claimed that the grand old party would sweep the Assembly polls in the state winning 65 of the 117 seats, while arch rival Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) would be reduced to a handful of seats. According to Singh, people voted for the Congress in the 48 hours leading to the February 4 polling, choosing “stability, governance and peace” in the state. The SAD, he said, was losing due to the decade-old pent-up anger of the people. Poll results on March 11 will reveal if his confidence is misplaced.
