President Pranab Mukherjee recently had lunch with IPS officer Bharti Arora, who is among 100 women achievers selected by the women and child development ministry. Arora is well known in Haryana: a fearless police officer, who takes no nonsense from anyone. Principal of the government-run Sports School, Arora is the first woman to be appointed to the post. She beat 43 contenders to get the job. State minister Anil Vij, a former Ambala MLA and Chief Minister M L Khattar's biggest critic, spent a night in jail because of Arora. She had ordered his arrest after he and his supporters caused a massive jam by holding a demonstration against the state government in 2009.
