The wedding of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Rajya Sabha member Ram Narain Dudi’s son was planned for January. The ring ceremony was held on November 11, where much of the discussion between the bride and the groom’s families centred around the government’s demonetisation announcement. All bemoaned the cash crunch, how it might impact wedding preparations and even wondered that wedding might have to be scaled down. Sensing the mood, Dudi spoke to both the families, his own as well as that of the bride’s. The families agreed to Dudi’s suggestion and the wedding was held on November 11 itself. Dudi hails from Jodhpur, Rajasthan, and is a farmer by profession. He has worked in rural areas of Rajasthan for the abolition of social evils such as child marriage and purdah system and also supported widow remarriage.
