The core committee for industry in West Bengal was set up with much fanfare and promise, much like the wind of parivartan in the state. Now, even as the sheen starts to wear off the parivartan phase, ministers who were supposed to be part of the core committee appear to have abandoned the idea, only they have forgotten to inform the other members. At a recent meeting, all members from industry, including presidents of various chambers of commerce dutifully came to discuss the state’s beleaguered economy, but no minister was to be found. Several industrialists were spotted leaving disgruntled, a sure sign that the investments Mamata Banerjee fairly pleaded for at the Bijoya Sammelani won’t be forthcoming.
