When industry chamber Assocham invited Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee to its 90th Foundation Day on December 10, the organisers didn’t want to miss the chance to celebrate Mukherjee’s birthday — although it was actually a day later on December 11. A huge cake was cut and the birthday song played in the background. But this was just part of the proceedings. Outgoing Assocham President Swati Piramal also read out a poem for Mukherjee, calling him “sometimes Bengali curry and sometimes rosogulla”.
