At an infrastructure summit organised by Ficci, many developers were complaining about the prolonged and acute funds crunch because banks were unwilling to lend on account of their expanding portfolio of bad loans. It is well known, of course, that the bulk of banks' bad loans are from infrastructure but one executive blithely ignored this reality to make an impassioned plea. He offered the example of a terminally sick relative who suffered from anaemia and required a blood transfusion to get better. The infrastructure was in the same predicament as his anaemic relative, he added. When developers need money immediately, it should be given otherwise many of the projects will simply die.
