Even as Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Lalu Prasad addressed Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Mulayam Singh as samdhi before a packed house in his native district of Gopalganj, his ally and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar launched a scathing attack on the SP government in Uttar Pradesh and accused it of deviating from the socialist ideals of Ram Manohar Lohia.

Addressing a rally of Bahujan Samaj Party rebel R K Chowdhary's supporters in the state capital, Kumar said while the SP brandished Lohia's name to garner votes, it never followed his principles.

The Janata Dal (United) leader went to the extent of accusing the district administration of trying to prevent him from reaching the rally site at the behest of the state government.
