A fight between two factions of the Congress broke out as party Vice-President Rahul Gandhi completed his Kisan Yatra of Uttar Pradesh earlier this week. Supporters of Haryana Congress chief Ashok Tanwar and former Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda clashed at the rally. Tanwar had to be admitted to the intensive care unit because of injuries to his head and neck. Sticks were used freely. Gandhi and other leaders went to see Tanwar in hospital. He was later discharged. The clash was as much over which group would put up its hoardings where as it was over caste loyalties. Tanwar is a Dalit while Hooda belongs to the Jat community. The clash will likely have repercussions on power equations in the party.
