When Reliance Industries Limited’s (RIL’s) P M S Prasad was at Shastri Bhawan in the Capital, several journalists covering the oil and gas sector asked him for passes for the IPL finals to be played in Mumbai. Prasad told them he may not be able to organise that but promised he’d invite them for matches played by the Mumbai Indians, a team owned by a subsidiary of RIL — as part of the IPL protocol, the home team’s owners have a box in the home grounds for home-team matches. RIL invited six leading journalists who cover oil and gas to watch the Delhi Daredevils match with the Mumbai Indians in Mumbai on Tuesday. As for the airfare back and forth (the journalists are flying back the same night), a spokesperson for RIL said it depended upon the policy of the newspapers/TV channels they worked for — in some cases, the media organisations paid for their airfare while RIL paid for the rest.
