Politically, the government exploited what it claimed to be the “surgical strike” of September 2016 portraying a commando operation as a masculine response to the Pakistani army’s killings in Uri. It asserted that carrying out such operation on PoK soil was unprecedented--a claim debunked by a former army chief. One should not be surprised if the government chooses the timing for the next aggressive military response with an eye on a possible electoral gain. Till then, regrettably, Kashmir would continue to bleed.
