Bharatiya Janata Party leader and Union Minister Maneka Gandhi on Saturday cited the example of Congress president Sonia Gandhi while talking about ways to fight corruption.
Speaking to her audience after a vigilance meeting in Pilibhit, her constituency in Uttar Pradesh, she said Sonia, also her sister-in-law, once took out a newspaper ad urging people to not visit the shop of a relative who was going around telling people that he was related to her. "Take out ads," she said, when some officials complained about corrupt bureaucrats who took bribes to grant recognition to schools.
The rumour mill immediately went into overdrive with suggestions that it might be a reaction to the fact that her son Varun had been pushed to the sidelines of the party he joined with his mother in 2004.
