The tireless Team Anna didn’t just mobilise the middle classes and aam aadmi to its cause. Emails were also sent to several influential CEOs asking them to state which version of the Lok Pal Bill they preferred — the government’s or Hazare’s. Maruti Chairman R C Bhargava was one of the recipients but he declined to choose. Instead, he told Team Anna, it would be better to explore ways to stop corruption before it occurred rather than looking at how to deal with it afterwards, as a Lok Pal law would do. Making the delivery of public services online was a good way to start, he told them.
