A handful of lucky ones received spanking new Rs 2,000 notes as the rest of India continued to queue up in front of banks and ATMs to exchange their old Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes that became illegal tender since November 9. Naturally, the new magenta notes, printed in Mysuru, sparked curiosity among people. Besides some unique features — such as an image of the Mars Orbiter mission, and the tag line of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, and Braille — it also had the image of Mahatma Gandhi. A colleague spotted a difference from the old series. The image of Gandhi on the new series note was a mirror image of the previous series: While in the old series, Gandhi looks towards the left, in the new one, he looks towards the right. Did someone out there simply flip the image?
