With prices of dal skyrocketing - making it costlier than chicken - social media is agog with 'dal-chicken' jokes. Detractors of Prime Minister Narendra Modi have also used the issue quite effectively to discredit the government. Speaking at an election rally in Bihar's East Champaran district on Monday, Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi took a potshot at the PM, saying: "While ordinary people can barely afford to eat dal, with prices touching Rs 200 a kg, PM Modi has no such worries. He goes abroad, to America and England, and eats dal". Taking his cue from Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad, Gandhi added, "When he raised the slogan of 'na khaaunga, na khaane doonga', I had no idea he was talking about dal."
