An unofficial joke doing the rounds among some forest inspectors these days is that terrorists are saving forests in Jammu and Kashmir. Miffed by the Indian army’s rampant cutting of trees to set up tents, they feel terrorists – who use the forests as a hideout – are unintentionally doing their bit by hindering the army from cutting trees. Well, we got the joke, but forest officers should perhaps realise that the very reason army jawaans are setting up their tents in J&K is to fight these so-called forest saviours.
