US politicians have raised a stink over the commode bought by Merrill Lynch CEO John Thain for $35,000 (Rs 17.5 lakh), but some Indian PSUs aren’t too far behind. One of them spent Rs 13 lakh on renovating the residence of a key executive —of this, the bed cost Rs 5 lakh, the sofa Rs 3 lakh and the vaastu consultant charged Rs 5 lakh. Of course, if the vaastu’s been done well, neither the executive nor the PSU will be hauled up for the expenses.
