Why is Mumbai not so badly hit by the recession? Because we faithfully follow the Keynesian theory of employment. Keynes said that if you hire one set of people to dig and the other to fill, then we can generate full employment.
Go around the city and take a macro-survey. The north-south axis is dug up for flyovers and the east-west axis for the metro. The entire city (or is it shitty?) resembles a bombed-out place and even Gaza may look better.
