Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh was at his caustic best at a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) "Kisan Kalyan Sammelan" (farmer welfare conference) in New Delhi on Monday.

Possibly upset that his ministry hadn't been getting due credit for its schemes for the welfare of farmers, Singh asked the BJP workers who had gathered to read the huge body of literature on these schemes distributed among them and take the message to the masses.

"But I know some of you will not read," he said. "You will keep it on the table and children will play with it. For you, I will repeat this government's pro-farmer policies." Singh then proceeded to deliver a nearly 75-minute long speech on that subject.
