Minister of Chemicals and Fertilisers Ananth Kumar's preoccupation with the pharmaceutical industry is well known - he apparently suggested to the Prime Minister's Office and the cabinet secretariat to carve out a separate ministry for it for better administration.
Last week, while addressing a conference, an officer introduced him as the minister of chemicals and fertilisers. When it was Kumar's turn to speak, he requested everyone to address him as the minister of chemicals, fertilisers and pharmaceuticals.
On hearing this, representatives of the medical devices industry present at the event said he should consider including medical devices in his portfolio. Kumar, of course, ignored the suggestion.
