GST 'nuptials'

After several failed attempts to get the consent of all the states on the Goods and Services Tax, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee has decided to table the Constitutional Amendment Bill in the upcoming Budget session. After a meeting with finance ministers on Friday, when the decision was taken, a state official was heard saying that it was like a “love marriage” where a girl and a boy decide to get married against their parents’ wishes. Now it’s for the parents (the states and the Centre) to decide whether they want to support the wedding (GST) and bless it, he said.
