What was slated to be a routine annual general meeting of the Bengal National Chamber of Commerce of Industry became sensational as the Union Minister of State for Shipping Mukul Roy,a Trinamool Congress leader, left in a hurry as soon as he found out that he would have to share the dais with West Bengal Commerce and Industry Minister Nirupam Sen and Municipal Affairs and Urban Development Minister Ashok Bhattacharya. As he was leaving, Roy said, he got an urgent phone call and had to leave but later confirmed to television channels that he left after he saw the two Bengal ministers. The three ministers were invited, but one did not know that the other would be present. The two state ministers lost no time in calling the incident “unfortunate”. Sen said, “We always had cordial relations with the Centre, which seems to have changed.” Roy had confirmed his participation at the meeting, but little did the chamber know that it would turn out to be a rather unpleasant five-minute presence.
