When Telecom Secretary S Behura didn’t quite reply to a question on why the government was not allowing Voice-over-Internet-Protocol which would dramatically lower costs for users, Ficci Secretary General Amit Mitra said terrorists used VoIP. This prompted Cellular Operators Association of India Director General T V Ramachandran to quip,“That’s why we’re opposing it!” This got the gentleman who asked the question at the Ficci seminar quite upset and he said, “The operators are opposing it to safeguard their profits, you please don’t give them another justification.” Mitra was quick to reply, “That’s what I’m saying: If terrorists can be allowed to use it, why can’t the rest of us?!”
