At a select media briefing after the release of the revised discussion paper on the Direct Taxes Code, revenue secretary Sunil Mitra was forced to explain to irate journalists why he had given an interview to a particular news channel and not to others. Mitra tried to pacify other reporters by saying the interview just happened and was not meant to be an exclusive. “She told me that she wanted to come for a cup of tea. It is very painful for me to tell a lady that I will not be able to meet her.” It’s a good thing that TV channels employ more women reporters than men!
