The Delhi unit of the Janata Dal (United) held a day-long dharna at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on Wednesday, demanding enactment of a law to impose prohibition in the national capital. Its leaders said the protest was to mark International Women’s Day. They highlighted how prohibition has been a boon for women in Bihar, particularly in reducing crimes against women. Rajya Sabha member and former party chief Sharad Yadav was present. During the United Front government’s tenure in 1996-97, Yadav had opposed a Bill to provide 33 per cent reservation to women in the Lok Sabha.
