A former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA has lodged a complaint with the Delhi police commissioner over "mischievous" WhatsApp messages purportedly being sent from the US to defame the party. Former MLA Vijay Jolly has said the messages, in Hindi, were aimed at defaming the BJP in the run-up to the Assembly elections in Delhi. The messages state that a BJP government in Delhi will work to adopt "Hindu culture", ban women wearing jeans, ban Valentine's Day celebrations, install statues of Nathuram Godse and also ban women from pursuing professional careers at the expense of their responsibilities towards their homes. Jolly is currently out in the cold after recently being ousted as the chief of the BJP's outreach to NRIs, the Overseas Friends of BJP. There is no word on whether he has also denied that such plans are in the offing.
