The outcome of Karnataka Assembly elections was largely expected to set a tone for the 2019 General elections. It was also expected that during the initial counting hours, the fight between the two national parties — the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) — would be neck and neck until the mid-way stage is reached when the BJP would begin to consolidate its gains and take them forward.

The picture indicates that people in Karnataka have strongly voted for BJP. As before, the strategy and the groundwork prepared by the BJP is one of the best that has once again left the Congress fumbling. While the BJP is slowly emerging as the most sought after national party, the Congress on the other hand has persistently failed to learn a lesson and stands decimated. Congress rule in states of Indian Union has now touched an all time low.

Interestingly, the Janata Dal (Secular) has a tally that is precious little to form the government on its own but has the potential to considerably influence the power equation in the final analysis.
