This is with reference to “Injurious to health” (May 8). Price capping is a needless and useless initiative; politicians are unaware of the nuances of health policies. Upfront high costs hurt everyone. India lacks a rigorous system of data collection via electronic health records, outcome measures and lack of capability to assess evidence.

The health care policy hence operates in a vacuum in the absence of clearly defined data with relevant endpoints.
The way out, in the long term, is to emphasise on preventive aspects, scale up investments in public health with clear policy guidelines for translational elements of medical delivery that is both relevant and applicable to India.
