The first thing he did after arriving there, was to send a message to the Maharani (Maharaja’s wife) to not worry, her husband was safe and comfortable in their hands in Delhi. And after that, he addressed a public meeting (which I attended). His address was soothing and full of humour rather than an expression of anger or threats. He asked the gathering why they got agitated. “I am told that some of you took out your swords and brandished them. In today’s world, swords are ineffective. They are not as good as even the brooms, which can at least clean your toilets. Swords can’t do even that. Forget all that has happened and feel proud to be citizens of a great country.”
