This refers to the editorial "Time to upgrade" (March 24). The inclusion of indigenously produced software and hardware should be considered in the policy for modernisation of Indian banking, to facilitate the banking sector in the long run. Substituting Microsoft's Windows XP or Windows 8 does not seem possible at the moment. But the question that needs to be asked is till when will US companies' monopoly dominate in India. The country with the most information technology professionals in the world is dependent on a foreign company, which might even snoop out some confidential information of national importance. Moreover, it's not just about the foreign companies' monopoly, but about the inability of our banking sector to have an indigenous, centralised and secure set-up.
