This refers to the editorial "Lessons from two elections" (December 24). With a stable and one-party government, let us hope that Jharkhand, the mineral-rich state that has been exploited by corrupt and mean politicians, will prosper. The state's mineral wealth should not be in the control of greedy politicians. Instead, it should be used for the betterment of the state and the country. Although we cannot deny a Modi wave in both Jharkhand and Jammu & Kashmir, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) should not take this victory for granted. More than a Modi wave, the current mandate reflects the people's anger against corrupt and non-performing governments and their aspiration for development and economic growth.
Despite the tall promises, the BJP failed to make inroads into Kashmir, which proves that the people of the valley still do not trust the Modi government. Nevertheless , the BJP should rise above petty politics and try to form the government in alliance with the Peoples Democratic Party and work for the betterment of the people of Kashmir.
